Setia means ‘loyal’ in Bahasa referencing Pauls Moluccan and Indonesian roots. The Setia Print is a part of the Dasar series, where “Dasar” means “foundation”. The Dasar series essentially represents the foundation of Paul Watty’s entire career. Influences from his childhood, heritage, and the streets he grew up in are an inherent part of this series. It was from here that the artist ultimately transitioned to a hyperrealistic style. In an effort to honor his origins and not deny his roots, he consciously brings forth the work that forms the bedrock of his entire artistic journey.
